First Setup, First Bootup

So here have our rig already set up and ready to mine. Stay tuned and enjoy this simple guide.

Riser Risers And More Risers

Since we cannot fit all 3 graphics cards in the motherboard slot, we use an item called a GPU Riser in order to fully use all 3 gpus correctly. The gpu goes into the riser and the riser goes into the 1x PCIE slot on the motherboard which is good enough to give an accurate Hash Rate for mining. Since mining also does not use the full x16 PCIE lane on the computer because we are only using the computing power of the card and not the data, we can plug the risers in all the x1 or x16 sockets.

Breakout Boards For Breakout Hoards

To power up the graphics card using the server power supply, we use an item called the breakout board that costs about 15$ which houses connectors for 6 Pin PCIE power connectors. We simply connect these to the 6/8pin port of the graphics card as well as the risers in order to independently power the whole card apart from the motherboard which could cause electrical instability.

A Cheap Server PSU Is All You Need

Next up is the Holy Grail of the component: The PSU to power the miner. I bought 1 1000W (@220v) HP Server Power Supply worth 50$ which I could upgrade later on to two or more or until I run a miner farm if the market persists. These are cheaper than all in one solutions on the market (Platinum PSU, Gold EVGA G2 1300W, Tier lists, etc and other BS) which costs hundreds of dollars to buy even online which may or may not give you the actual return of the amount invested to buy the PSU itself. Remember we are trying to spend minimal as possible to get the same end result at wise buying choices rather than reading reviews online and not researching of other alternatives which is just as good. And at current mining difficulty, It just gets worse and worse to spend absurd amounts on hardware that may not pay for itself. Stay tuned.

Dual PSU To Support The Important Two

Powering my main system is a 700W cheap 10$ no name brand PSU which delivers approximately 400-600w of electricty to power my motherboard ram and cpu.

Power Supplies Comes First, Rest Comes Later

Before I even started this blog, I already tried mining on low end components to test things out afterwhich I then burned out one of my cheap old PSU from my work pc. A horrible experience and regretful thing to say but that was a lesson learned I guess. Nevertheless, I bought new components after a ton of research that will make mining safe and fool proof.

First Card, First Hash

Next up I bought an Rx 480 4GB overseas since it was sold out anywhere and at insane prices here in our country. I will be testing this to mine different coins and how much can we get at this day and age with this 1 card for now. Stay tuned as more cards will arrive in the future.
